Wisconsin Pocket Jackpot
Wait! Before you drop that quarter into that pinball machine, take a close look at the back. It could be worth several hundred additional credits.
A TikTok video making the rounds has brought attention to an error on the 2004 Wisconsin quarter from the US Mint’s 50 State Quarters Program, which ran between 1999 and 2008. The flawed coin shows an extra leaf on the ear of corn, making it worth as much as $500.
Collectors have been aware of the flaw since 2005, but the viral clip got a new audience rooting around in their couches and cupholders.
There are actually two variations of the coin, one known as the “up leaf” and the other know “down leaf” depending on where the flaw is located. It’s believed that close to 50,000 of the quarters went into circulation before the error was detected.
So take your time when you’re at the jukebox or in the laundromat, and set aside those Wisconsin quarters before carelessly pumping them into the machine. Unless, of course, you need one more to wash your lucky Drink Wisconsinbly T-shirt. That baby is sure to provide a bigger payday than some dumb coin.
