The twin-engine plane made its unscheduled landing on the third hole of the Western Lakes Golf Club during a snowstorm. It was en route to Waukesha from New Orleans, bringing the dogs Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha.
The humans were treated at the scene before being transferred to an area hospital for care of non-life-threatening injuries.
Some of the dogs are being treated for bumps and scrapes, while others have already been transferred to other shelters as planned. Since they were already prepared for the arrival of the dogs, they were able to pivot quickly and respond to the emergency.
A fundraiser has been set up to help treat the injured dogs and get their tails wagging at full capacity again. You can make a donation here.
In other semi-related dog news, the Milwaukee Admirals are hosting Sendik’s Dog Day, tonight at UW-M Panther Arena. You can bring your pooch to help cheer on the team against the Iowa Wild. Coincidently, a portion of the proceeds from each ticket goes to support HAWS of Waukesha.
