You’ve had all year to build up your arm strength and work on your mechanics, and now the time has come to put that hard work into practice at the Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw & Festival.

The annual event in Prairie du Sac takes place next weekend, Aug. 30 – 31, 2024, with competitors vying to see who can fling cow feces the farthest.

Things get underway on Friday evening with live music and the corporate team toss, where coworkers eschew the trust falls and take their team-building out to the pasture.

Then the action really heats up on Saturday with a full slate of events, starting with a kids throw in the morning and the adult and team throws in the afternoon.

In addition to the dookie discus, there are two entertainment stages, an arts and crafts fair, a parade, 5k and 10k runs, and more.

And you’re sure to work up an appetite whether you’re heaving hunks of excrement or applauding vigorously from the crowd. Worry not; there are plenty of food vendors at the festival, too. Each is a local non-profit that’s raising money to support their work in the community. Hopefully, there are plenty of hand-washing stations, too.

The current Cow Chip throw state record is 248 feet, so if you want to be Number 1 in number 2, you better come prepared. Gloves are not allowed, but according to the rules, you are allowed to lick your fingers. Ick.

The cows are hard at work preparing the projectiles now. You can learn more about the festival at their website. If you need pointers on how to best toss cow chips we cannot help you.
