Fresh Breath, Fine Art
Not only do they contain the image of the subject, but also the palette.
A De Pere, Wisconsin artist is creating minty-fresh paintings of Wisconsin landmarks on a rather modest scale. His wee works are contained entirely inside Altoids tins.
Nate Rose has painted for years, but more recently scaled down to the tiny metal boxes. Not only do they contain the image of the subject, but also the palette, which provides a chance to see exactly how the art sausage was made.
He has painted familiar sights from around the state, such as the Lambeau Field, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Bronze Fonz, and the World’s Largest Hex Nut. He’s also memorialized departed favorites like County Stadium and Atomic Records on his 2″ x2″ canvases.
No word yet if Nate has plans to paint the iconic facade of Drink Wisconsinbly Pub, the OPE Sculpture, or the legendary “beer served” sign inside, but you figure they have to be on the list. He immortalizes notable Wisconsin landmarks, right?
You can find Nate’s work — both tiny and regular-sized — on his Instagram page and in his Etsy shop. You can also find Altoids at retail outlets throughout the state that sell candy, gum, and other stuff.
