It’s Pizza Farm Season in Wisconsin
Several farms here make artisanal pizzas with fresh ingredients and serve them in a pastoral setting throughout the summer months.
Agriculture plays a large role in Wisconsin’s economy. In addition to our farms’ dairy output, they also grow things like corn, cranberries, oats, beans, and ginseng. But did you know they also produce pizzas?
No, they don’t grow them. Several farms here make artisanal pizzas with fresh ingredients and serve them in a pastoral setting throughout the summer months.
In other words, we’re in the midst of pizza harvest right now.
When you consider we spend much of the year confined in noisy pizzerias in order to get our fix, having a few slices outside in a pinball-free environment offers a tranquil alternative.
And a change of scenery would also be good if you’re a pizza-at-home family. Chances are you spend too much time there already. Those four walls will still be there when you get back, as will the place you order from.
In addition to pizza, some farms offer other cheese, ice cream, and alternative menu items. You can often find live music throughout the summer, too. And let’s not forget animals. These are farms after all.
Each is a little different, so you’ll have to see if there’s a pizza farm in your area and learn their specific hours and offerings. We’re not going explain to you how the Internet works, but the best way to find a pizza farm near you is to “log on” and find one that’s reasonably close to your home or check out Travel Wisconsin’s site. Just remember to bring along some bug spray to keep the feast one-sided.
Bon appétit.
