You guys playin’ cards? Euchre World Championships in New Glarus
While there will surely be card sharks flying in on private jets from every continent, there is still time for regular amateur players to enter.
The eyes of the world will soon turn to New Glarus, Wisconsin as heavyweight card players from around the globe square off in a battle for supremacy at the 2024 Euchre World Championship.
The event will take place from May 17 to 19, featuring both single and doubles tournaments.
In addition to the hot card-playing action, there will be a party on Saturday night, Euchre Palooza, with food from area vendors and music from local Swiss singers.
While there will surely be card sharks flying in on private jets from every continent, there is still time for regular amateur players to enter. At press time, there were more than 70 slots still available for the singles tournament on Saturday.
So if you, a humble card player from Wisconsin, ever dreamed of a rise from rec room obscurity to the top of the euchre-playing world in Rocky-like fashion, this is your chance to make that dream a reality.
You have less than a week to train, so you had better hop to it. Go shuffle some cards or perform wrist exercises or whatever one does to prepare for a high-stakes euchre tournament. By this time next week, you could be holding up the championship belt and deciding which talk shows to appear on during your decadent, champagne-fueled victory tour.
Proceeds from the event benefit the New Glarus community, so that’s a win even if you somehow lose. But we don’t believe that’s gonna happen. We have complete faith in you.
